Motivation is a key deciding factor in every action that you take, no matter how big or small the action is. Motivation is behind getting up to go to work, taking a new position with a new company, and making it to a Saturday morning tee-ball game. There are different things that motivate each and every one of us for each decision we make. Identifying your target candidates’ motivations will help you recruit your talent.

Learn the major motivations of each individual by getting to know them beyond their resume and work performance. Major motivations may include: work-life balance, company culture, required travel or commute, professional growth, and compensation. Below is a short list of questions that may help identify what motivates each candidate.

  • What are your individual goals?
  • How do you plan to achieve your goals?
  • What interests you about this role and our company?
  • Why are you considering leaving your current position/company?

This is not a definitive list and we encourage you to build upon this list. Feel free to share any that have been excluded!
